The Imposter Complex is the nasty little voice inside of you that tells you you are not good enough to be doing whatever it is you are doing. You aren’t good enough, smart enough, what you have to say is not original or even interesting, and who the heck do you think you are, anyway?!
It tells us we better watch out because soon they will find out we are not what they think, and it will all come tumbling down around us.
Who is Affected?
According to Tanya, anyone with high standards or expectations for themselves…anyone who is a perfectionist, who works hard to succeed, who is motivated and driven.
I really wanted to talk about this topic.
As it often happens, the universe lined up. I had this topic on my list for quite some time, and hadn’t gotten to working on it yet, when I was contacted by Tanya! The reason I wanted to talk about it and learn more about it is that I have experienced it, and I have been meeting others who have too. It’s funny…you would think that this wouldn’t be as common as it is…but it is.
Who is Tanya?
Tanya Geisler is Leadership Coach (CPCC, ACC) with a penchant for clarity and an abhorrence of the Impostor Complex. She’s coached hundreds of people who were ready to step into the starring roles of their lives. She is a blogger for the wildly popular The Daily Love, has served as contributor and was featured in Canadian Living, and is an in-demand TEDx speaker who talks with great passion about the Impostor Complex, personal leadership, on all things joy, meaning and purpose (just try to stop her).
Some of her works include:
The 12 Lies of the Imposter Complex (and One Truth)
The Joy Pages
Board of Your Life
12 week program called Step Into Your Starring Role
It is her indomitable belief that if everyone knew their own unique recipe for their personal brand of joy, they’d hold the key to shining in their life, in their work and in their life’s work. (It really does change everything.)

It’s been a while between episodes, and mostly that’s due to a house plumbing disaster, my car dying on me, and the fact that I’m madly writing a book to deadline…not in any particular order.
I am doing some research and would LOVE to have your help.
If you would like to be entered into a draw for an advance copy of my book coming out in spring of 2015 (What They See: How to Stand Out & Shine in Your New Job), please email me your answer to this question and put “Book Research” in the subject line. Your name will go into a draw Oct 31st, 2014 and you will receive your book in April 2015 before it is available in stores in May. Deadline for submission is Oct 30th, 2014.
What 1-2 things do you wish you had known about before you started your new job that would have helped you to stand out and shine?
